Hey guys!
I know I have been MIA since the last few months and haven’t really put up new posts. I have a ton of pending reviews screaming at me from the drafts folder to complete them but sadly I haven’t been able to. I have made a resolution before that before we enter 2017, I will try to complete all my assigned tasks and then reward myself with something awesome!
If you are following me on Instagram, you must have seen the new lip products from Skin Café that I have been raving about! Before I get around to reviewing them for you, I wanted to share a few insights into what their brand stand for and bust a few myths about lip balms in general.
Women can conquer the world and lip products definitely help us along the way 😉
Being a lipproductholic, I, at any point of time, have at least 10 different types of lip balms that I like to use randomly and tons of lipstick which I adore. Which is why; some of these facts busted some of the myths that I have been holding on to!
Tube v.s. jar packaging
Dr. Jessica Wu, a Los Angeles-based dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Southern California’s School of Medicine, and Dr. Cybele Fishman, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City say that it is advisable to steer clear of tube packaging when it comes to lip products. She recommends a creamy lip conditioner to lipsticks and lip glosses all balms or lipsticks that come in tubes contain waxes that tend to dry out our lips. Dragging a stick across your dry lips, especially one that’s not brand new, can only irritate the skin further whereas gently dabbing the balm on your lips is very soothing.
As a blogger, I always have recommended the tube packaging citing it to be more hygienic but with this recent evidence, I think I have to reconsider.
Never lick dry lips. Ever!
A crime that I have been guilty of committing every single day is licking my lips with my tongue because I am too lazy to reach out for my lip balm.
Saliva can eat away and destroy the thin layer of skin covering the lips as it contains digestive enzymes. This can easily become a vicious cycle leading to painful, cracked, sore lips.
Lip balm addiction? It’s a myth!
Every time we use any lip product directly on our lips, we are essentially depositing an invisible layer of saliva onto the top of the lip product, and the next time we apply that product on our lips, what we are rubbing onto our lips is, yes, that layer of dried saliva. Hence the more saliva on our lips, the more we use lip products and the more we feel the need to use lip products, unaware of whether this is helping or harming our delicate lips.
Nobody is addicted to lip balms though some of us may use it excessively thinking that it will protect and nourish our lips.
SkinCafe recommends (and I agree) using clean dry fingers, a makeup spatula or a lip brush to grab any skin product from its packaging. If using fingers, flick the finger outwards, to push the product on top of your fingernail rather than underneath it.
