The Divorce

“The court hereby grants divorce to Ms. Mayuri Kapoor and Mr. Anil Wadhwa”, the bored old judge intoned. He then proceeded to read out the divorce settlement, which both of them had agreed on amicably. Anil smiled, with a twinge of sadness. They had had a whirlwind romance and had married in two quick months. He could still see his mother shaking her head when he had told her about Mayuri, but he was adamant.

They had finally given in, albeit a little reluctantly, and Mayuri became his partner for life, or so he thought. His eyes wandered over and finally settled on his wife… oops ex wife. Ex-wife he said the word out aloud and then grimaced. They sounded so alien to him. He looked up again and saw Mayuri observing him from a distance. As soon as their eyes met, she quickly lowered her gaze.
Mayuri was looking so frail and tired. Her eyes looked puffed. Had she been crying? Anil wondered. He observed her more closely now. She had lost some weight and a sad smile played on her lips. Suddenly he just wanted to get up and tell her that everything will be fine; he wanted to make her laugh see her eyes crinkle. The marriage had been a strain on her. When his mom’s taunts had become unbearable, she insisted that they move out. Initially, they were happy and their love for each other bloomed. But then practicality hit both of them hard.
When their savings were over, they had to put in extra effort just to pay back their loans on time. They hadn’t gone out for dinner for ages. The fights had started, silly ones first but later blowing over to gigantic proportions. Anil stared at her again. Was she looking so tired because the stress had been unbearable for her? When was the last time… He looked at her wistfully wanting to envelope her in a hug when someone nudged him.
“Are you okay?”, Deepak his friend and lawyer asked him.
Mayuri was already walking out of the court with her counsel
“Damnit!” he swore under his breath and ran after her. He tried calling out to her but she could not hear him. He then grabbed her hand and suddenly felt a rush of emotions. She felt so soft and vulnerable; he couldn’t remember the last time he held her hand. They stared for many long seconds, when he finally blurted out, his heart thundering, “Would you like to go out on a date with me?”
Her eyes widened in surprise, but she smiled, that same smile that could light up many many houses he had once teased her, and said, “Yes”

I just love this post. Personal touch and care is essential for every relation. Just like plants need water to nourish, relations need that personal touch to prosper or else they will be like a dry weed. That's why I just love the tagline “Bring back the touch”. Hats off Khushboo you have explained it in a very beautiful manner 🙂

About Munni of all Trades

We remember the day seven years back when were travelling in a Mumbai local trying hard to come up with a name for our blog when struck us; Khushboo was always called a Jack of all Trades. The name stuck (with a slight modification, of course) and Munni was born. Six years, over 100 collaborations, lakhs of readers and several awards later; our love for blogging continues to grow. We continue to write on an eclectic range of topics from the funniest autorickshaw signs that we have spotted in Mumbai to how to bathe an elephant. We are true blue Munni of all Trades and we hope to continue on this joyride with our fellow Munnis and Munnas. Read More
