Today I am going to introduce a new page to my blog, ‘Hostel Hacks’. Surviving in a hostel is not easy and one can’t even get simple things (things which you would take for granted at home) done. This goes without saying, hostelwallahs are usually broke, too. I have a double disadvantage. My hostel is situated nearly 10 kms. away from the main town and I cannot afford to pay the autowala’s fare, every time I need something. So using Google Baba and some of my own creativity (it is ok to show off sometimes J) I have started making simple things to make my life easier. The materials used are the ones that you can easily find in the markets or even in and around your hostel. Hope you enjoy these simple DIY’s J
My first DIY were two boxes to organize the teeny tiny things that I would keep losing. Here is a step by step tutorial.
Here are the things you need
An empty carton box
Rough paper lying around (I used my last semester’s notes :P) and one crumpled up gift wrapping paper
Embellishments (old bracelet, wool, Kitkat’s silver foil and some wool)
Chocolate (all this DIY business makes me hungry!)
First cut the box into two halves carefully and cover one of the halves with paper.
Don’t let the second half go waste. Take some glue and stick flap neatly. Allow it to dry for about ten minutes and cover it with paper, too.
Then you have the freedom to go funky and decorate your two boxes.
I took some colourful strands of wool to make a bow for one. I also cut the Kitkat wrapper into some thin strips and stuck it all around the box.
For the second one, I stretched my old bracelet and put it around the box and stuck some shells on it.
Now the best part, fill the boxes up with the things you keep losing and flaunt it on your table.
Hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial. Your feedback will be really appreciated 🙂
